History of The Artwork
William Henry Fox Talbot, a pioneering photographer, is credited with inventing the negative, which is the foundation of modern photography. He worked with the first “negatives” and found out how to stop his prints from fading away. Fox Talbot’s early experiments with making images using a glass electric discharge wand led to the discovery of photogenic drawings. In 1839, he produced a photogenic drawing of two plant specimens by placing them on sensitized paper and exposing them to light. This image is considered to be the first photographic negative. The Art Institute of Chicago has a copy of this image in their collection priceless artefacts from the birth of photography
